Vehicle safety technology has come a long way in recent years. Features that were once considered luxury add-ons are now standard, helping drivers navigate roads more safely and preventing countless accidents. But as our vehicles become smarter, the maintenance required to keep them roadworthy evolves too.
We know that staying on top of changing regulations can be a challenge for busy fleet managers and operators. That is why we want to share some important updates regarding the DVSA and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). There are new requirements coming into effect from the 6th of February regarding calibration certificates, alongside expected changes to the MOT test later this year.
Here is everything you need to know to stay compliant.
Understanding ADAS Calibration
Before we dive into the regulations, it is helpful to clarify exactly what we are dealing with. ADAS calibration is the precise adjustment of a vehicle’s cameras and sensors—such as radar and lidar.
Calibration involves using specialised equipment to restore these systems to factory specifications. This can be done via stationary (static) or on-road (dynamic) procedures. Generally, a vehicle needs recalibrating after events that might disturb the sensors, including:
- Windscreen replacement
- Accidents or collisions
- Suspension repairs
- When warning lights appear on the dashboard
What is Changing on February 6th 2026?
As of the 6th of February, the DVSA will be asking operators for a Certificate of Calibration for a vehicle’s ADAS if any of the events listed above occur.
This means if your vehicle has had a windscreen change or suspension work, you must be able to prove that the safety systems were recalibrated correctly.
Potential Changes to the MOT
Beyond the immediate request for certificates, the industry is preparing for these checks to be formally integrated into the MOT test later in the year.
While the DVSA hasn’t issued direct guidance on the exact date for all these changes, testing garages have begun informing operators that several new items will likely be added to the MOT inspection starting from February 6th. These items include:
- Reversing Cameras: Checks to ensure they are working if fitted.
- Lane Departure Warning: Checking for Malfunction Indicator Lamps (MIL) on the dashboard.
- TPMS Sensors: Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems must be functional if fitted.
- Front Radar: Visual checks on the radar units used for collision avoidance.
Ensuring Compliance with Vehocheck
With all this new technology comes the responsibility to ensure it is working correctly. A sensor covered in mud or a misaligned camera can render these safety systems useless. This is where daily checks become more critical than ever.
We understand that additional paperwork is the last thing you need. To support you through this transition, Vehocheck is adding the new ADAS Calibration Certificate directly to our Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs).
How We Help You Manage the Change
Using Vehocheck streamlines the entire compliance process. It empowers drivers and technicians to easily record and report defects, including issues with ADAS components, directly from a mobile device.
Our integrated ADAS Calibration Certificate covers all the essential data points the DVSA looks for, including:
- Pre-Calibration Checks: confirming tyre pressures, ride height, and sensor mounting are correct before calibration begins.
- System Results: A clear pass/fail record for Front Radar, AEBS, Lane Departure warnings, and Blind Spot sensors.
- Diagnostic Evidence: Space to record pre- and post-calibration diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
By integrating ADAS checks into your daily routine with Vehocheck, you ensure that your safety net is always deployed and fully functional. It simplifies compliance and gives fleet managers peace of mind knowing that their vehicles are not just legally roadworthy, but genuinely safe.
If you have questions about how to access the new ADAS templates or want to learn more about managing these checks digitally, our team is here to help.
