Vehicle safety technology has come a long way in recent years. Features that were once considered luxury add-ons are now standard, helping drivers navigate roads more safely and preventing countless accidents. But as our vehicles become smarter, the maintenance required to keep them roadworthy evolves too.
We know that staying on top of changing regulations can be a challenge for busy fleet managers and operators. That is why we want to share some important updates regarding the DVSA and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). There are new requirements coming into effect from the 6th of February regarding calibration certificates, alongside expected changes to the MOT test later this year.
Here is everything you need to know to stay compliant.
What Changed in February 2026?
From 2 February 2026, the DVSA began conducting visual checks on ADAS equipment during heavy vehicle tests.
While the DVSA has stated that this currently does not have a significant impact on the overall test for the customer, it marks an important step in data gathering to inform future testing standards.
Understanding the Visual Checks
Assessors are now conducting visual inspections on vehicles fitted with ADAS. These checks focus on:
- Condition: Checking sensors and cameras for security, damage, and obstructions.
- Operation: In some cases, checking the operation of the system.
- Warning Lights: Checking for ADAS-related malfunction indicator lamps (MILs).
Currently, these checks are for information gathering and are not part of the formal annual test pass/fail criteria. However, ensuring these systems are functional is critical for fleet safety and general roadworthiness.
Ensuring Compliance with Vehocheck
With the DVSA increasing their focus on these systems, the responsibility to ensure they are working correctly is clearer than ever. A sensor covered in mud or a misaligned camera can render these safety systems useless.
We understand that managing these new checks can be complex. To support you, Vehocheck helps streamline the maintenance of these systems.
How We Help You Manage the Change
Using Vehocheck streamlines the compliance process, empowering drivers and technicians to easily record and report defects, including issues with ADAS components, directly from a mobile device.
Our platform allows you to:
- Record Pre-Calibration Checks: Confirm tyre pressures, ride height, and sensor mounting are correct.
- Track System Status: Maintain clear records for Front Radar, AEBS, Lane Departure warnings, and Blind Spot sensors.
- Store Diagnostic Evidence: Record pre- and post-calibration diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
By integrating ADAS checks into your daily routine with Vehocheck, you ensure that your safety net is always deployed and fully functional. It simplifies compliance and gives fleet managers peace of mind knowing that their vehicles are not just legally roadworthy, but genuinely safe.
If you have questions about managing these checks digitally, our team is here to help.
